Art Attack!

It's not too far from here. It's a good exercise to walk there.- Monica

Our second Art Attack is found by the empty lot near Hollywood theater.  Enjoy the free art from our generous artists!  And, as Jamond's side says, Have a nice day!

Hollywood Theater

Justen from Hollywood theater welcomed the Project Grow artists and farmers with open arms on our field trip. He revealed the 90 year old secrets behind those beautiful red curtains and invited us into the projection booth.  We all came back to the Project Grow space feeling inspired and energized!

There was a stage, where Michael Jackson and the Jackson five can sing! I like the movies! I'd like to go with Mom and Dad. Movies are good, I like to see them. The rock is kicking! That's from a movie. - Jamond W.

Thanks to Justen and the Hollywood theater for the warm welcome.  What an amazing Portland landmark.  Thank you.

Observing and Sharing Art

We put the sign on 16th and Ash. Anybody that drives down Burnside will see the sign that we put up! I helped Dosha [our fabulous volunteer who joined us on our trip] but the sign on the tree. The sign says 'you look nice today.' We put fliers on the trees that let others know who we are. I really liked doing this, because I like to make other people happy. I think we did a good job on making the letters. - Zach

That's just perfect!- Patsy

We had a wild adventure visiting the 100th monkey, displaying some of our art in the neighborhood, and then feasting on VooDoo Donuts! Yum!
- Amanda The Amazing Milholland, one of our fearless leaders

Returning from our first (loving) art attack, we are all very excited here at Project Grow. You'll find our banner on 16th and Ash.

It's HOT outside

Dandelion, the beautiful feathered lady in the picture (by  the chair), is trying to stay cool.  She dug a hole and sat in it.  What clever ladies.

Tuesday Experiments

When we can, on Tuesday's, we do experiments in art.  These can be things like: imagining our lives as places and making post cards about ourselves, a group finger painting project, apple painting, a feeling map, painting with strings soaked in color, and other ones, all so different, but always very strange.
My favorite one was the finger painting. Everyone worked on the same large piece of paper. I liked it because I like paintings.
When we do them in the future we will make sure to share them with our friends everywhere through this blog.

CSA Day

Just look at them and see which one you like the best!
This is Tim, he's nice, handsome, and I like to talk to him. My name is Patsy Marie Blasier and I love my job. I work and make some money and things like that. I just like to do it [paperwork]. I like to send letters, things like that. I do the paperwork, watch people, and I like to do things with my hands. Keep myself busy. Come visit us at Port City, nice place to work. I got friends here like Monica and Ayesha, and some of the other bosses. They are really nice. Especially Sandy.

Our wood shop is reality!

Our woodworking crew, Dan, Jamond, James, and Tim pictured above, is working on developing a wood shop for Port City Development Center. Can't wait to share the finished products with the world. We will be making natural Lego sets and planting trays (designed by the genius Tim Donovan).

It's Good SCRAP Pile

It was a great SCRAP pile where we went to. I learned a lot. I saw some good things, colored pencils. And some bottles. I could draw circles from the lids. I saw lots of different shapes, like squares and tiles and inter tubes with bikes. I learned about stained glass. I really liked learning about stained glass windows like churches have. You should go there, they have some good stuff there. If you have some old things that don't work, or if you have things that you don't use, like old toys you don't play with anymore, take it over to the SCRAP pile. And call the number if you want to go there: (503) 294-0769.

How the Pieces are Used

We went to cycling center on Alberta and learned how the pieces of bikes are used. - Monica

The people are nice. Brian is my good friend. He gave us the tour. I also showed everyone what jobs I do when I volunteer there. We fix them up. We recycle parts. It's a nice place to go to. I learn a lot. The mural is nice. It has nice paintings on the side. - Dan
